奇葩说 "Qi Pa Shuo" 

Mixed Media Monotype 

奇葩说 roughly translates as ‘on certain things we have different views’.

The series of mixed media Monotypes was developed through collage, photography and observational drawing, during a 3 month teaching residency in Guangzhou, China.

 

The project reflected on my experience of being a foreigner in a new country and the theme of balancing natural forces with social and moral codes, which is frequently explored in Ancient Chinese mythology.

 

The resulting work is a mesh of abstracted observations, reflecting on the chaotic experience of piecing together unfamiliar cultural narratives and surroundings.
